Århus

Århus

We literally just went to Århus because my parent’s friends told them there was a cool museum there, but it actually was a pretty cool city as well. A lot of the city is still in development and it is very interesting to see the contrasts between the modern new buildings and the older constructions of the harbour. We visited Dokk1 for example, a library that has all sorts of other functions and was a very modern building, cool to see. Then we tried to visit the Latin quarter. We went completely the wrong way and missed it, but this is supposed to be an older quarter with all sorts of funky art galleries and shops. It is very nice to see a city in development.

The ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum was the reason we came to the city. This was already the fourth museum of the vacation, so we were a little less enthusiastic at this point, but it was still very nice. The museum has a lot of different floors, with some permanent and some temporary exhibitions. Every floor has something very different. The museum also has some very unique installations, which is really fun to see. A permanent part is the dome. Every half hour, the dome fills with people and the skylight closes. Then you get immersed in a kind of sunset with changing colours. On the top of the museum was the part that my parent’s friends were very excited about: a walkway with coloured glass like a rainbow, so you can see a view of the city in different colours. I think this is very fun when it comes as a surprise, but is not really a highlight if you already have been recommended this multiple times. So expect nothing and you have everything to gain! I think that that is key with this city. You don’t go there for some famous destination with all these expectations, but you just come to explore a different city and you might learn something interesting.
